WCYC Work Weekend/Work Retreat

June 20-22, 2025

Have you ever wanted to participate in a WCYC Work Day and thought driving three or more hours each way is a lot of driving for a few hours of work. Well, we have the answer for YOU!

The first ever WCYC Work Weekend, think of it as a WCYC Work Retreat, will be June 20-22, 2025! The Work Weekend is an opportunity to be part of projects that take more than a couple hours or provide the opportunity to work on a project as a team, we invite you to be a part of the team.

We’ll be gathering at WCYC starting on Friday morning, doing a great deal of manual labor and fellowshipping. Meals will be provided starting with Friday dinner and going until Sunday Breakfast. Lodging in camp cabins is available, or you can arrange your own lodging if you’d rather. Come when you are available, depart when you need. We are grateful for any time you provide.

If you need a reason to participate, see the smiling faces at the end of this page.

Our major project focus will be to replace the stairway leading down to the bridge from the Hill (the stairs to the Boys side). The work will involve cutting and placing beams and railroad ties, hauling, placing, and leveling gravel, and generally encouraging the people around you.

Construction or heavy projects is not something everyone can participate. A host of smaller projects have raised their hands:

  • Pollen cleanup on porches and in cabins: Might you have a Shop Vac to bring along?

  • Make sure all bathrooms are restocked. (Bathhouse, Boy's Cabins, Staff Bathroom, Great Hall Bathrooms)

  • Basketball Court - Sweep and use of a leaf blower

  • Fill and level ruts in front of the bathhouse - some heavy lifting if the tractor is not back in running order.

  • Clean Dining Hall windows and some screen work.

  • Stock Canteen - Supplies are provided.

  • Trail-blazers! Join a team.

  • Inventory old tee shirts.

If you are interested, and ready to sign on for this amazing opportunity, please send the following information by email to tom.hill@wcyc.org and/or jim.coehoorn@wcyc.org:

  • Your Name

  • What part of the weekend you’ll be available, (days and guestimate of arrival/departure time so we can plan meals),

  • If you have a lodging preference, or if you’ll be arranging your own lodging,

  • If you have any dietary restrictions,

  • If you have any particular project relevant expertise (none is needed, but all is appreciated),
