WCYC Work Days

WCYC Workdays

Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp is committed to providing its campers with the best summer camp experience possible. That means… in addition to providing deep Christ-centered spiritual growth, and fun activities and great food… we are responsible for the maintenance and improvement of our campgrounds and facilities.

To that end, every year we host several “Workdays”.

General details

Workdays are ALWAYS OPEN TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO WORK! We usually start around 8am local time, and finish around 3pm. We provide coffee and simple, quick breakfast foods. And we provide LUNCH!

Regardless of age or skill set, if you are interested, please, RSVP to operations@wcyc.org

Types of work

Certain tasks can be done just about anytime of the year. These tasks can be done without supervision. (If you can’t make it to an official workday, let us know, and we’ll make sure you have what you need to keep WCYC awesome.)

  • Pick up deadfall all around the campground

  • Clear trails

  • Clear gathering sites

  • Clear wild growth around cabins

  • Clean cabins

Other frequent tasks are a bit more involved, and would require either supervision or use or operation of special equipment.

  • Sanitize all the mattresses

  • Deep clean the kitchen

  • Deep clean & mop floor of Great Hall

  • Winterize (or de-winterize) supplies

  • Sweep debris off cabin roofs

  • Chopping or chainsawing wood

And many are harder to list… because we don’t know what they are, yet. Projects pop up, and we suddenly need the work done. These tasks may include:

  • Painting

  • Power washing

  • Repairing portions of buildings or stairways

  • Hauling gravel

  • Running a wood chipper

Bring a van-load. Make it a party!

Come be part of the solution!!!

So… whatever the case may be at one particular workday, one thing remains constant: We need you! So, come. Join us. And bring a van load.

And, please, let us know you’re coming, by contacting operations@wcyc.org.

More context

WCYC consists of 450 acres of wild, natural Wisconsin forest. As such, Nature is constantly trying to reclaim it. Plant growth, erosion, humidity, animals, and the elements… all take their toll on our buildings, our roads, our campfire sites, our walking paths. A lot of effort is required every year just maintaining what we have.

Add to that a lengthy wish-list of improvements that will make WCYC even more awesome, and we have a situation requiring a LOT of effort from good folks just like you. Come! Help ensure WCYC is preserved and improved for the next generation of campers.

Bring a friend, or a van-load of friends. And, bring your toolbox, some garden gear, and a pair of stout working gloves… and, wear clothes that can tolerate a little dirt (or paint?).

Not only will you aid WCYC in its mission to spread the Gospel… but, you will make friends, and deepen your ties to good people.

Lunch is always provided. So, please, let us know if you are coming.
