New remote volunteer opportunity

WCYC is looking for someone with a bit of an artistic eye to help us wade through hundreds of photographs that have been taken at our various camp sessions, and pick out the best ones to include in our annual albums. It can be done from the comfort of your own home, whenever it works for your schedule. If interested, contact communications@wcyc.org.

WCYC Camper Scholarships

In years gone by, the burden of collecting and determining scholarships for campers has been placed on the Registrar. To support this important work, the Board has created a scholarship committee. At the time of this printing, the committee members are working on developing the criteria and an electronic application that will be posted on the website.

While we have a few congregations who budget for scholarships and we’re making other new connections, we’re still in need of better funding these scholarships. At this moment in time, the best way to donate is to go to our website: WCYC or https://www.wcyc.org, hover your mouse over the Donate Tab, and click on “Donate Online.” Fill out the form and put in the amount you’d like to donate. Next click on “Dedicate this Donation.” From here you can either put in the name of a specific child or family who you’d like to support OR you can just put in “Scholarship Fund.”

In the near future, the committee will have an email so people can contact the committee directly in case they have questions and we also plan on having a specific link for Scholarship Donations so watch for more soon!

Thank you for your gift of time, money, and prayer as we work to meet the WCYC Mission, by bringing more “kids into a closer relationship with their Creator.”

“Why I am a WCYC member”

Let’s start off with, “Are you a WCYC Member?

For years, because our kids went to camp and we donated time and resources to WCYC, I thought I was a member. After all, I thought that I had met the:

QUALIFICATIONS. Members of WCYC must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, pay the established dues, and commit to furthering WCYC’s purpose, Articles of Incorporation, bylaws, and policies.”

I’d never actually seen these “Qualifications” in writing until I became a Board Member. What struck me was, “...pay the established dues.” Hmmm…. Not me. You see, I’d never seen the Bylaws. I’d never even thought about Bylaws.

So I read on to learn that there are different “TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPS. Individuals may hold either an annual membership or a lifetime membership within WCYC.” (You might be catching on now to see that everything in italics is from the Bylaws.)

But wait! There’s more! “TERMS OF MEMBERSHIP. Individual annual membership shall be from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.”

Well now, let’s back up the train just a bit. Right there on the website, under the “Donate” tab, I can click on “Membership.” Here’s what I learned: A Membership comes in two forms:

  1. An annual membership costs $35 for individuals, or $45 for both members of a married couple.

  2. A lifetime membership costs $400.

Genius! Why for just $35.00 per year I can truly be recognized as a WCYC Member and the money goes to a great cause. Now donating to a great cause is cool but WHY would I want to be a WCYC Member? Well, it’s truly amazing what we can learn on the website! The benefits of being a WCYC member are modest but reasonable. As a member…

  • you are eligible to vote at our Annual Meetings for candidates to join our Board of Directors.

  • you are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors yourself.

  • you are eligible for discounted rates when using or renting camp facilities. (Did you know our cabins are open for rental during the spring and fall? This could be a great family or church retreat destination.)

If you’re like me and didn’t know what it meant to be a WCYC Member, now that you know more, how about visiting our website to learn about the Membership Process. It’s an easy online form and there are multiple ways to pay.

Of course, you might be thinking, “Well, why not wait until October 1st to register?” I get that. However, whether you’re planning to become a new member or to update your annual membership, why not now so that you don’t forget? All you need to do is note that this is for the 2025-26 fiscal year. There is always the option to become a Lifetime Member. Boom! Once and done!
