2021 WCYC Summer Sessions

COVID-19 Response

(Last updated May 24, 2021)

OUR COMMITMENT TO KEEP CAMPERS SAFE

The health and safety of kids, families, and staff have always been our top priority at Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp.  We want to address any possible concerns you may have about what we are doing to keep everyone safe from COVID-19, as well as other illnesses.  For years we have provided a safe camp with intensive medical and cleaning protocols for a wide range of medical situations.  This is not the first virus outbreak, it won’t be the last, and we take them all very seriously. We believe that people need the opportunity to get outside, interact, learn about God, and have fun. We also believe that there need to be changes and new guidelines in place to ensure the safest camp experience possible for all guests attending WCYC. It is with this approach in mind that we bring to you our health and safety commitments for 2021

LIABILITY WAIVER

A liability waiver will need to be filled out by each camper/staff and turned in during registration.

WCYC COVID-19 Liability Waiver

YOU MUST BRING THIS SIGNED LIABILITY WAIVER AND THE SIGNED PRE-CAMP SCREENING FORM TO CAMP REGISTRATION.

NEGATIVE COVID TEST OR VACCINATION

Prior to arrival, everyone attending camp (campers, leaders, volunteers) is required to have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours (3 days) of arrival, OR a fully completed vaccination per specific vaccine type recommendations. The Pfizer vaccine is now available for ages 12 and up.

Vaccine dates requiring a 2 part series must be complete two weeks prior to the start of their session.

  • Middle before June 6

  • Intermediate before June 20

  • Senior before July 4

  • Junior before July 18

FOUR-STEP HEALTH SCREEN

1. Screening at home before coming to camp, including a negative COVID-19 test (3 days prior to start of camp) OR completed vaccination (MUST SHOW PROOF). Campers and staff who have had a positive viral test in the 3 months prior to starting camp and have met the criteria to end isolation should have a letter from their healthcare provider documenting the positive test date and stating the individual is cleared to end isolation.

WCYC Pre-Camp Health Screening Form

YOU MUST BRING THIS SIGNED LIABILITY WAIVER AND THE SIGNED PRE-CAMP SCREENING FORM TO CAMP REGISTRATION.

If someone is unable to meet the health standards on this form, we would ask that individual to stay home for the safety of all the others. If you are unsure whether you/they should attend camp, you can call our office, 715-284-0049, or contact the session director prior to the first day of camp and we will work with you on the best plan possible.

2. We ask campers, their families, and camp staff to engage in physical distancing, mask-wearing, avoiding unnecessary travel, and refrain from indoor social gatherings with people outside of their households, 7 days prior to coming to camp.

3. Screening when the camper arrives at camp, more details on the check-in screening process to come. We ask that only one parent assists campers with check-in on camp grounds.

WCYC Check-In Health Screening Form

4. Daily screening throughout your time at camp, which includes an antigen test performed as deemed necessary for individuals who are not fully vaccinated.

KEEPING IT CLEAN

New cleaning procedures have been set for cabins, restrooms, and other common areas. Additional sanitation and cleaning supplies will be provided.

TRAINING AND ORIENTATION

At the beginning of each session, all attendees will be trained on updated safety protocols which include practicing good hygiene. Staff will receive training on updated protocols, additional care, and action steps to take if someone becomes ill.

MEDICAL STAFF

We have trained medical professionals on staff throughout the summer.   While camp is in session, they are available to address medical concerns that may come up throughout the summer.  Many of our full-time and volunteer staff are trained with First Aid and CPR and are trained to identify illness and help.

FOOD SERVICE

We are working with the WI State Health Inspector to make sure we follow all food service guidelines and regulations.  All food service employees are health screened before every shift, including temperature checks.

SENDING SICK INDIVIDUALS HOME

Based on the camp nurse’s risk assessment, each camper and staff that is not fully vaccinated, may be required to submit to additional rapid antigen tests performed by our medical staff during a camp session. In the event that we have a person with a positive test, after a 3 hour quarantine period a second rapid antigen test will be given. If the second test confirms the positive case of COVID-19, contact tracing will be performed to determine individuals at risk and medical staff will determine further action. If there is a confirmed positive covid case during a session, that individual will be sent home and there is a strong potential that additional campers/staff would need to be quarantined and possibly sent home early.

LIMITING EXPOSURE

We will be greatly limiting the number of non-program staff and visitors on our properties during camp sessions to help limit exposure to illness.

ADJUSTING PLANS WITH THE TIMES

These guidelines are written for those planning to come in the Summer 2021 season.  WCYC will be hosting new groups of campers and volunteers that include two week sessions for Middle, Intermediate and Senior and a one week session for Junior and Family.  We realize not every policy fits every individual situation, and we want to work with you to the best of our ability, while maintaining the safety of every person on our grounds.  We also realize that these times with COVID-19 are ever changing.  As time goes on, we may be able to relax some policies, or we may need to tighten policies if the situation merits.

PLANNING TEAM

WCYC continues to plan and review our health policies and procedures with volunteer health professionals who have teamed up with us, as well as the CDC and other governing authorities.  We have a healthy working relationship with our county health department (Jackson County), as well as the local hospital, clinic, and EMS.  We desire to provide the best care to everyone.

We will continue to evaluate and update the details of each category and make any additional changes according to CDC or local guidelines and regulations. These guidelines are changing daily and will be adjusted accordingly.

Please continue to join us in prayer for every camper, staff member, volunteer, family, and church partner who will be a part of Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp this year!
